Silvertech Wins Interconnector Contract

Silvertech, the Sussex based System Design and Control Engineers has won a contract from Interconnector (UK) Ltd. for the supply of Station Control and Fire and Gas Detection Systems for the UK – Continent Gas Interconnector Expansion (Zeebrugge Compression Facilities) Project. The engineering and procurement services associated with the contract have been placed with PLE GmbH who are based in Germany.

The UK to the Continent Gas Interconnector pipeline is designed to transport up to 20 billion cubic metres of gas a year (bcm/y) through a 40 inch diameter sub sea pipeline, from the compression facility at Bacton in Norfolk to the reception terminal at Zeebrugge in Belgium. The expansion project will see the installation of gas compression facilities at the Zeebrugge terminal and some modifications and additions to the Bacton terminal. The £150 million project will boost the amount of gas brought into the UK from 8.5 bcm/y to 23.5 bcm/y; this upper figure will account for approximately 20% of UK annual demand.

The Silvertech contract covers the design, manufacture, testing, commissioning and site acceptance testing of the station control systems and fire and gas detection systems at both the Zeebrugge and Bacton terminals. Silvertech’s high quality product and service offerings, coupled with its proven system design capabilities were key factors in the award criteria. To meet the challenging project schedules, Silvertech will utilize the services of staff within both its United Kingdom and other worldwide offices.
